    • Antiprotozoal Agents

    Trypanocidal activity; inhibits enzymes involved with the oxidation of reduced NADH

    Indicated for 

    • Trypanosomiasis
    • TB Gambiense

    Treatment of hormone-refractory prostate cancer

    Hypersensitivity

    Vomiting

    Urticaria

    Paresthesia

    Peripheral neuropathy

    Kidney damage

    Blood dyscrasias

    Polyuria

    Polydipsia

    Pancytopenia

    Shock

    Optic atrophy

    Proteinuria and renal toxicity reported with use

    Avoid use in renal or hepatic impairment

    Pregnancy Category: no human studies conducted

    Lactation: not known if excreted in breast milk

    100-200 mg (test dose) IV, then 1 g IV on days 1, 3, 7, 14, 21

    TB Gambiense

    10 mg/kg IV q5day to total of 12 injections
