    • Drugs used in parkinsonism

    Procyclidine is used to treat symptoms of Parkinson’s disease such as trembling, shakiness, stiff muscles or limbs, unusual head and body movements, etc. It is also used to treat side effects such as trembling, unusual body movements, Parkinson-like symptoms, etc. caused by other medicines.

    • Drug-induced Extrapyramidal Symptoms
      This medicine is used to treat extrapyramidal side-effects such as unusual body movements, Parkinson-like symptoms, etc. caused by other medicines.
    Procyclidine (HCl) is contraindicated in conditions like Prostatic hypertrophy, Tardive dyskinesias, Intestinal obstruction, Narrow-angle glaucoma.

    Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers, and Neonates.

    Procyclidine should be used with caution in patients with heart, liver, kidney or obstructive gastrointestinal (GI) diseases. Patient should observe caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness because may impair mental or physical abilities. It should be used with caution in hot weather. Reduce dose or discontinue therapy if loss of appetite or weight occur.

    Pregnancy

    This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine.

    Breast-feeding

    This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine.

    Adult

    2.5 mg-2.5 (2.5)-8 hourly-PO-Gradually increased to 5mg.

    5 mg-5 (5)-24 hourly-PO-Maintenance

    Pediatric

    0.071 to 0.142 mg/kg-0.11 (0.1065)-As recommended.-Intra Muscular-Maintenance for once or repeat/20 min As Required
