Male Formula:
- Body Fat % = -26.97 – (0.12 × Weight in lbs) + (1.99 × Abdominal Circumference in inches)
Female Formula:
- Body Fat % = -9.15 – (0.015 × Weight in lbs) + (1.27 × Abdominal Circumference in inches)
Example Calculations
For Men:
- Weight: 180 lbs
- Abdominal Circumference: 36 inches
- Body Fat % = -26.97 – (0.12 × 180) + (1.99 × 36)
- Body Fat % = -26.97 – 21.6 + 71.64
- Body Fat % = 23.07%
For Women:
- Weight: 150 lbs
- Abdominal Circumference: 32 inches
- Body Fat % = -9.15 – (0.015 × 150) + (1.27 × 32)
- Body Fat % = -9.15 – 2.25 + 40.64
- Body Fat % = 29.24%
Maximum Allowable Percent Army Body Fat Standards

For Males:
- Ages 17-20: 20%
- Ages 21-27: 22%
