    Latanoprost, a prostaglandin F analogue, is a selective prostanoid FP receptor agonist which reduces IOP by primarily increasing the uveoscleral outflow of the aqueous humour.
    Timolol, a non-selective adrenergic receptor antagonist, reduces IOP by decreasing the production of aqueous humour in the ciliary epithelium.

    Timolol/latanoprost is used is indicated in adults (including the elderly) for the reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension who are insufficiently responsive to topical beta-blockers or prostaglandin analogues.

    Reactive airway disease (e.g. existing or history of bronchial asthma, severe COPD); sinus bradycardia, sick sinus syndrome, sino-atrial block, 2nd- or 3rd-degree atrioventricular block (not controlled with a pacemaker), overt cardiac failure, cardiogenic shock; active herpes simplex keratitis or history of recurrent herpetic keratitis specifically associated with prostaglandin analogues.

    Side effects of timolol/latanoprost include:

    • Eye irritation, stinging, burning
    • Eye redness
    • Feeling something is in the eye
    • Dry eyes
    • Watery eyes
    • Eyelash changes including dark eyelashes, thicker lashes, or more eyelashes

    This medication contains timolol/latanoprost. Do not take Xalacom if you are allergic to timolol/latanoprost or any ingredients contained in this drug.

    Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.

    Ophthalmic

    Adult: Available preparation:
    Latanoprost 50 mcg and timolol 5 mg per mL of eye drop solution

    In patients who do not adequately respond to topical β-blockers or prostaglandin analogues: Instil 1 drop into the affected eye(s) once daily.
