Description
Enoxacin is an antibiotic in a class of drugs called fluoroquinolones. It fights bacteria in the body.
Enoxacin is used to treat various bacterial infections, such as gonorrhea and urinary tract infections.
Indications
Contraindications
Penetrex (enoxacin) is contraindicated in persons with a history of hypersensitivity, tendinitis, or tendon rupture associated with the use of enoxacin or any member of the quinolone group of antimicrobial agents.
Adverse Effects
an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
seizures;
confusion or hallucinations;
liver damage (yellowing of the skin or eyes, nausea, abdominal pain or discomfort, unusual bleeding or bruising, severe fatigue); or
muscle or joint pain.
If you experience any of the following less serious side effects, continue taking enoxacin and talk to your doctor:
nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea;
headache, lightheadedness, or drowsiness;
ringing in your ears; or
increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight.

Maximum Dosage
Usual Adult Dose for Gonococcal Infection — Uncomplicated:
400 mg orally one time.
Usual Adult Dose for Urinary Tract Infection:
Uncomplicated: 200 mg orally every 12 hours for 7 days.
Complicated: 400 mg orally every 12 hours for 14 days.
Usual Adult Dose for Prostatitis:
400 mg orally every 12 hours for 14 to 30 days.
Usual Adult Dose for Pyelonephritis:
400 mg orally every 12 hours for 14 days.
Usual Adult Dose for Epididymitis — Non-Specific:
200 mg orally every 12 hours for 14 days.
