    Chloramphenicol / Hydrocortisone Acetate is a medicine that is used for the treatment of Eye infections, Severe bacterial infection, Typhoid fever, Cholera, Bacterial infections of the outer ear, Plague and other conditions.

    This medication contains an antibiotic that helps prevent or treat an infection and a steroid which reduces inflammation. It is used in the treatment of various eye (ophthalmic) or ear (otic) conditions. Do not use chloramphenicol if safer, effective medications can be used.

    Hypersensitivity to Chloramphenicol / Hydrocortisone Acetate is a contraindication. In addition, Chloramphenicol / Hydrocortisone Acetate should not be used if you have the following conditions:
    • Allergic reactions
    • Concomitant use of penicillins
    • Hypersensitivity
    • Large doses in neonates
    • Mifepristone
    • Nursing
    • Pregnancy
    • Rectal obstruction
    • Aplastic anemia
    • Bone marrow suppression
    • Leukemia
    • Gray baby syndrome
    • Fever
    • Rash
    • Angioedema
    • Hives
    • Anaphylaxis
    • Headache
    • Mild depression
    • Mental confusion
    • Delirium
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Inflamed hair follicles
    • Dryness of the skin
    • Loss of skin color
    Before using Chloramphenicol / Hydrocortisone Acetate, inform your doctor about your current list of medications, over the counter products (e.g. vitamins, herbal supplements, etc.), allergies, pre-existing diseases, and current health conditions (e.g. pregnancy, upcoming surgery, etc.). Some health conditions may make you more susceptible to the side-effects of the drug. Take as directed by your doctor or follow the direction printed on the product insert. Dosage is based on your condition. Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens. Important counseling points are listed below.
    • Avoid repeated courses
    • Avoid situations in which bruising or injury may occur
    • Check blood sugar levels closely
    • Concomitant use with other drugs that cause bone marrow depression
    • Consult your doctor in case you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation or dietary supplement, allergies to medicines or foods, have anemia, bone marrow problems, liver disease, kidney problem
    • Do not use this medication for mild infections
    • Do not wear contact lenses during the treatment for eye infection
    • Monitor blood counts and plasma concentration before and during treatment
    • Never use in minor infections or those of undefined etiology
    • Pregnant, planning to get pregnant or breastfeeding

    This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or while breast-feeding. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
