    Iodine / Methyl Salicylate is used for Hyperthyroidism, Radiation emergency associated with the use of radioactive iodides, Fungal skin infection, Leg ulcers, Anti-pain topical medication, Muscle or joint pain, Muscle strains, Arthritis, Bruising, Back pain and other conditions.

    It is indicated in as a topical in bruises, strains and sprains, chilblains (painful inflammation of small blood vessels in skin due to repeated exposure to cold) when skin intact, arthritis (one or more joint swelling/tenderness).

     

    It is contraindicated in conditions like: thyrotoxicosis (excess thyroid hormone action at the tissue level), diabetes, low levels of VIT K, anemia, hemophilia (disorder in which blood doesn’t clot), decrease in blood clotting protein prothrombin, clotting disorder (increased bleeding risk). Produces allergic reaction with salicylates, NSAIDS & Iodine & Iodide containing products.

    Its common side effects include:

    • Stinging sensation on the skin

    Infrequent side effects include:

    • Dry skin
    • Skin irritation

    Very rare but severe side effects include:

    • Feeling of throat tightness
    • Hypersensitivity reactions to drug
    • Shallow ulcer on skin
    • Skin ulcer
    • Fluid accumulation round the eye
    • Skin inflammation because of topically applied medicine.
    Before using Iodine / Methyl Salicylate, inform your doctor about your current list of medications, over the counter products (e.g. vitamins, herbal supplements, etc.), allergies, pre-existing diseases, and current health conditions (e.g. pregnancy, upcoming surgery, etc.).
